Biography

I am a young British-born Chinese pianist, accompanist and piano teacher. I graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) with a Bachelor's Degree in Music where I studied piano with Dr. Stephen Savage. Currently, I am a peripatetic piano teacher for Redbridge Music Service which involves teaching at various schools throughout Redbridge such as Woodford County High School, Woodbridge High School, Trinity Catholic High School, Christchurch Primary and Redbridge Music School.
During my time at RNCM, I had to unfortunately battle against musician's dystonia; an incurable neurological condition that affected the control of the fingers in my right hand. Nevertheless, I persevered and participated in various internal competitions, receiving a commendation in the Salon Prize with my cellist. Whilst at the RNCM, I have also had lessons with Stefano Fuizzi, Philippe Cassard, Daniel Herzcovitch and Harvey Davies.
As a teenager, I studied at The Latymer School and played an active life in their music department with highlights including performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major, K.440, playing one of the piano parts in a Two Piano and Choir version of Carmina Burana and accompanying the Chamber Choir.
I also attended the Centre for Young Musician’s Saturday Music Centre (CYM). In 2013, I was the runner up in the CYM’s Louis Watt competition and was also part of the Theodora Trio that won the Performance Practice Award at the Music for Youth Finals in Birmingham. I also received a Jack Petchey Award and used the funds to invite Tom Poster to give a masterclass. I was also lucky enough to participat in a violin-piano masterclass on Beethoven duo sonatas with Daniel Tong and Krysia Osostowicz.
Outside of music, I have an avid interest in psychology and currently run a blog about mental health and wellbeing (alonelypianist.wordpress.com) with topics such as music performance anxiety.
